EXTRA LIFE

Extra Life is a charity program for gamers to raise funds for children’s hospitals by doing a 25 hour game-a-thon every November, called Game Day, on the Saturday the clocks change back due to Daylight Savings Time.

Many gamers choose to stream themselves playing video games on Twitch, or “live tweet” on Twitter/X, during the game-a-thon and it is very much an internet gaming community event.

Some years I’ve streamed myself playing Sims on Game Day, but usually I prefer to choose a family and live tweet their story, and the Game Day experience, to anyone who wants to donate or follow along!

I learned about Extra Life when my kids started doing it as a school-wide fundraising event. I didn’t have enough funds myself to donate to their efforts, so in 2019, I decided to do the event myself, and get all my friends and followers to support me!

Now, my kids are long grown and have forgotten about Extra Life Game Day for the most part by now, but it’s a small thing I can do to give back to my community, so I still do it every year!
