EXTRA LIFE
Extra Life is a charitable organization that allows gamers to raise funds for children’s hospitals by doing a 25 hour game-a-thon every November, called Game Day, on the Saturday the clocks fall back an hour due to Daylight Savings Time.
Many gamers choose to stream themselves playing video games on Twitch, or “live tweet/skeet” on X/Bluesky, during the game-a-thon and it is very much an internet gaming community event.
Some years I’ve streamed myself playing Sims on Game Day, but usually I prefer to choose a Sims family, live skeeting (formerly live tweeting) their story and the Game Day experience on Bluesky, to anyone who wants to donate or follow along!
2025 is my 6th year with Extra Life!
I learned about Extra Life when my kids started doing it as a school-wide fundraising event. I didn’t have enough funds myself at the time to donate, but I stayed up with them and supported their efforts the best I could. I always thought Game Day was a good idea, so in 2019 I decided to do the event myself!
Now, my kids are long grown and have forgotten about Extra Life Game Day for the most part, but it’s a small thing I can do to both give back to and engage with my community, so I still do it every year!
My charity is Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto!
Here’s what we’ve raised so far:
